THE DROWSY RUNNER ASKS WHY
I heart running. I run 6 + miles every other day and it leaves me with the most amazing feeling, like I'm sucking on the earth or floating in the atmosphere (well, at least I think both of these experiences would result in feeling great). I've noticed, however, that when I run on very little sleep, my runs are nearly effortless. I wonder why. Someone come up with an answer for me while I go for a run--on less than 4 hours sleep...

It has to do with your sleep schedule. Your body performs best with x hours of sleep (x being the minimum no. of hours your body needs to function its best the following day). So if you've overslept one day and underslept the following, your sleep lag may balance out to have you perform your exercise effortlessly. This varies from person to person however, but you may notice that your training results are improved with the sleep minimum, and not if you've overslept.
Hope this clarifies.

i think you just end up dreaming, so you don't realize how much you run. which begs the question: what happens when you run by a sheep farm & start counting them?
You trip.
