Sometimes I find myself in the same situation and I try to give myself a pro-social pep talk. I trash talk myself for being a dork, but usually I still end up at home alone with some weird non-fiction book. When I was still in college some of my friends could get tricked into having a "reading party." Maybe you should try that.
Yes, the books always beat the friends/parties/good times. Books that take over my life remind me so much of being a kid when, pretty much every single book did that to me. I'd read for days and days and days and didn't feel like I was missing much...which probably explains a lot about me... As a wise man once said, whatever floats your boat. Que sera.
